Introducing Me
My name is Orla Lavery and I am a second year Business Studies student at Ulster University Belfast.
I love going to concerts and listening to music. Taylor Swift and Sam Fender are the highlights of 13 concerts I've been to over 2023/24. I've also started listening to podcasts, like Happy Place by Fearne Cotton, in the car.
Currently I'm reading Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid and my favourite book of all time is The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
I watched Greys Anatomy for the first time this year, but I've stopped at season 11. I love Little Women (2019) and 10 Things I Hate About You, and I will probably rewatch one now I’ve mentioned them.
I prefer to do home workouts rather than go to the gym. This season I re-joined my camogie team which I have loved getting back into. I love to go on nature walks - either solo with my headphones or with my friends and family for a catch up.
My family has expanded from 6 to 8 members in the past few weeks, keep reading to find out more :)
So, what is New Perspectives??
This blog is part of my digital analytics coursework at uni, so I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to explore more of my own interests and maybe influence you to learn more about yourself too.
Over the past few years, I've learned the importance of limiting my screen time to improve my physical and mental well-being.
Scrolling endlessly on TikTok and constantly checking notifications loses hours out of my day that could be used more productively. I've noticed my attention span becoming so short that it can be difficult for me to focus in lectures.
Anyone still reading this can probably already feel the urge to watch cat Instagram reels instead (but bear with me there will kitten photos here).
My upcoming posts or 'perspectives' will follow a variety of hobbies, interests and recommendations exploring topics such as books, music, fitness, meditation and pets.
A Kitten’s Perspective
The most important members of this blog, my 9-week-old kittens Teddy and Jesse.
This week the kittens had a trip to the vet where we discovered they are both actually boys (we thought Jessie was a girl) and they got their first vaccines! He's going to keep his name though, just changing it to 'Jesse'.
They have such different personalities, Jesse (left) with shorter fur is very adventurous and Teddy (right) is fluffier and calm.
I love learning how to look after them both, naptime is essential as it's exhausting playing and eating all day. I think they feel more comfortable around me and my family, using our legs as climbing poles and always trying to bite my nails off. I can’t believe how much they have grown already, I think their blue eyes are fading.
The kittens have been so well-behaved, always using their litter tray and drinking more water now too. They can’t always be on their best behaviour, we have some teething problems... (see video below)
Spending time with the kittens helps me stay off my phone a lot more, although sometimes I put on dancing fruit videos for them to watch.
Thank you for reading my first post and follow my Instagram @orlasnewperspectives to look out for my next one,
Orla.
